A GROWING DEMAND FOR HORTICULTURE AT HOME

Spring is in the air, and once again people are turning to their gardens in search of an activity that will bring both physical and mental health benefits as we head towards what we hope to be the end of the pandemic. The horticulture scene has experienced a significant boom since we entered into the first lockdown in early 2020. Pinterest alone reported a 600% increase in searches for ‘homemade garden boxes’ and ‘DIY small garden ideas vegetables’ as furloughed workers and people working from home looked for new activities to occupy their time.

Examples of the gardening boom include Canada-based Stokes Seeds, which ships to the United States and Canada, who received 1,000 online orders during the weekend of March 21, four times more than normal, and In Russia, demand for seeds rose by 20%-30% year-on-year in March, according to online retailer Ozon.

At-home gardening has grown leaps and bounds last year and projections this year, according to Garden Media’s trend report, show that of the 16 million people who took up gardening in the US last year, 80% plan to continue this year. This new-found love for planting, growing and producing your very own crop is certainly not going anywhere in the immediate future, and with that in mind, there is a huge opportunity for printable products designed for outdoor environments, such as plant tags and wraps.
